He looks like a Carolina Wren to me, but I'm hoping for a Marsh Wren. He was pretty small. Carolinas are pretty big as far as wrens go.

I was shooting in the Missouri Botanical Gardens today. He was poking around in the lily pond as I was composing a building. He was so accustomed to people, he was never more than 10 feet away from me and acting as though I wasn't there. He was there so long he allowed me to switch lenses and really try and line some shots up. I came away with about 5.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

Chopper I believe you`re right on the ID, he looks like a marsh wren to me. These are both beautiful shots.

These guys are fearless. I've had them land on my shoes while fishing on a boat. Very nice shots!

Beauty shot. This is a Marsh Wren's closest relative. This is a Sedge Wren. Very hard bird to get this quality of a photograph of. Nice job.

Chuck

Of course, this proves it was more luck than skill....typical...lol. Right place, right time.

Thanks, all, for the ID and for the compliments! She was fun to watch just hopping in and out of the plant bases right on the water line. Poking for insects no doubt.

AAB didn't have a Sedge Wren listed. Are they residents in my St. Louis area, or was she likely migrating through?

Chopper, I'd say your area is right near the line between residents and migrants according to the range map shown on the Cornell site.

Pretty little thing chopper, the first habitat shot is a beauty... I have only the Winter Wren that frequents and nests in my area.

This is a Marsh Wren. The wing coverts are solid reddish-brown, the mantle black with "spotty" streaks. A Sedge Wren would have boldly patterned coverts in all plumages.

Very nice shots, indeed.

No idea what it is, but I love that first shot. The green and browns/yellows work beautifully here. Really lovely.
