Is my macro lens ok?

So i asked about a focus ring issue earlier, just wanted to see if its the lens, or settings issue, or if the lens looks to be ok........

Your images look fine. Why so much testing?

It was bought here from a user, and was stated as perfect condition, first thing I notice out of box is a wiggle or play from front to back of lens on the focus ring, so I am concerned....

I just checked my EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM that I purchased new from Adorama. It also has some axial play in the focus ring.

Images look OK for me, but don't forget for macro/proxy photos to close the aperture to a value like f/8 or f/11 to have a sufficient depth of field.

Stop the tests, it's time to use your new lens !

I have a very minor (to me) amount of axial wiggle on my 100mm 2.8 macro USM focus ring too. Not enough to detect visually at normal hand-held distance, but I can feel it. Didn't even notice it until I just checked now.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Measuring with a feeler gauge, I measured 0.006" (0.152mm) of axial play in the focus ring. It is perceptible and just visible but not enough to be bothersome.

Looks OK to me.

I had a Canon 85mm 1.8 that had a huge amount of play in the focus ring. It would make a audible clack every time I tried to focus back and forth because there was so much play. That one I did send back. Sounds like yours is very minor compared to something like what I had.

im thinking about going to best buy and asking "hey, this was a gift, i dont have a receipt, yet its a bit faulty, may i exchange it"?

I think you are over-thinking it. How about you go into Best Buy or a camera shop and feel one of their "new" lenses and see if it feels any different from the one you have. Try to have same overall environmental conditions (i.e. room temperature around 74 deg F) so that you aren't confusing looseness with thermal expansion.

If the brand-new one feels tremendously more awesome than your current copy, PM the seller and discuss whether you wish to return the lens.

Please don't use Best Buy or any other retailer as as dumping ground for something you got elsewhere. That's fraud.

Ah the all not needed guilt trip! lol no really, i know...totally wrong just saying though, an option....

my thing is the "seller" is IMO playing dumb and has no recolection of the lens being loose around the focus ring, said he never noticed it cuz he always AF...but dude, the thing wiggles lol

But how much does it "wiggle"? If someone had bought my 100 macro from me yesterday and asked about focus ring wiggle, I would have also played dumb, because I didn't notice until you brought it up. But maybe yours is much worse. As i said, go check out a new copy, see how it feels.
