Something I've never really looked into so I am not sure what is needed... I have some White Lightning X1600 lights, 3 of them. I have and know how to use grids, flags, softboxes, umbrellas, PLMs, etc. What I've never done, or seen discussed, is how to makes specific shapes of light and/or shadow like they can do in theater with spots. For example they can spot a light on the stage floor with leaf shape shadows, etc. Can I do the same thing with a studio flash? What does it require...? I am assuming there may be some additional focusing lens or something.
My idea for a Halloween shoot I have coming up. I have a 10x20 haunted house backdrop and a few props. But i think it would be fun to have one of my background light project a large 'shape/shadow' onto the scene (axe murderer, ghost, etc.) so it would only bee seen when the picture is taken. A little bit of a surprise factor and ad to the look of the scene. Anybody lead me down the right road for this?

They're called Zoom Spots (they go by other names too). You can rent them (Speedotron, Elinchrom, Profoto, etc) or if you want to own one and use your existing kit you could try your local craigslist for an out-of-commission stage model and figure out a way to mount a speedlite in it.
