so the back story here. this is my mother looking out at the ocean where we scattered my father's ashes aroind a year ago , this was a candid shot of her looking out at sea alone with her thoughts. any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I actually like the first better given the subject. I think the dark tone goes along with a person having just spread their spouses ashes. Just my 2cents

I like the original better too, although it might benefit from a little increase in contrast. You can tell by the shadows that it was taken early or late in the day and the overall lighting should be a little subdued.

I went ahead and increased the contrast so you could see how it would look.

Sigma 150 macro, 1.4X, 2X, Quantaray 2X, Kenko closeup tubes, Yongnuo YN685(3), Yongnuo YN-622C-TX. Lots of studio stuff.

thanks very much, it struck me when i took this shot and uploaded it the amount of emotion in what really is a very simple plain photo, but I suppose thats the beauty of photography, you can say so much while saying nothing at all
