I was also looking at the vc version of it but not sure if I need it and if I want to spend the extra 160 for it. I don't have IS on my 50f1.8 and I never have an issue with it.

I love my 28-75, but my main subjects are my kid, portraits, family activities and so on, so the focal range is perfect. I paired it with a Tokina 12-24; I really enjoy the Tokina, but in the end I haven't used it much. If you shoot a lot of wide-angle subjects, go with the 17-50. But if your main focus is people, it's hard to beat the 28-75. Awesome lens in every respect. Gear: Canon R10, Canon RFS 18-150, Canon RF 100-400
