Sports Photography: Kid's soccer and Camera Body

Shot my kid's soccer game today using 5D2 and 300mm 2.8.

I know 300mm 2.8 is a pretty fast lens... but man oh man... my fingers were going faster than the camera could focus. Sure...there are many good shots. But there are many blurry out of focus shots also.

What kind of improvement in auto focus speed can I expect from 1D Mk2 N and 1D MK3?

Looks like the used market pricing is $1,000 & $2,000 for those...respectively.

1D mklll is your sports body prob 90 % in focus if you can keep up

ID MkIII for $2,0000

OR

7D for a lot less

I have both 5D2 and 7D

If it is standing still or slow moving --- 5D2

It it has any speed to it at all --- 7D

I have both and they are close in good light (at least my copies). The 1D III does focus a bit faster in low light situations. I think you'd be more than happy with either one

Lots of threads here about the focusing on the 7D, but it is fast and has more in common with the 1D Mk IV, perhaps you should rent one and check it out for yourself.
