Hi all,

I have just noticed this evening a *very* faint strip that runs down the full length of the image about 5% of the way in on the left hand side. I only noticed it today because I was going abit nuts with Topaz adjust and one of the extreme contrast settings and it showed up. Going back through my old photos it looks like its there in all of them but its soooo faint I havent noticed it until now.

Anyone have any ideas? Is this something I should send back to Canon to have a look? The camera is still within warranty as I've had it 7 months. It has not been near any lasers or anything like that and as I said its been there from new.

EDIT: I have seen a couple of other posts here with something similar that relate to shutter issues. However they are larger white stripes with blurred edges and orientated along the long edge of the frame. Also, after a little more searching, I have found that this white line occurs in every image with every lens at every shutter speed (3 minutes or 1/4000th - still there). So I'm pretty sure this is a sensor related issue.

I've boosted the image below (so it looks awful) and this is as clear as I can make it really - its most noticeable two-thirds of the way up on the picture in the sky and just in from the left hand side (its very faint even now):

Cheers.

Well, I see it but wouldn't have a clue for what causes it. If as you describe it's on all your shots with all your lenses, then it would be a no-brainer to get it to Canon!!

I would definitely send it to canon to have a look while its still under warranty. That does look like a sensor issue.

Possible prelude to shutter failure.

I'd get it looked at.

For sure.

Same card? Just a idea if you are using the same card.......I'd look at that also.

Yup - appears on all 4 cards I use.

Calling Canon today and probably sending it off. I dont think its a shutter issue as all of them I've seen are across the long edge of the sensor not the short one. Also those are quite distinctive - this is different.
However I'm not an expert so it could well be, just a wierd one!!

Just to close this thread off....

5D2 came back couple days ago. Looks like they've sorted the white stripe. The repair invoice didnt mention anything too specific apart from "Readjusted CMOS sensor assembly". I have no idea what that means but its done the job.
No mention of shutter.

On a different note, they replaced the focus screen because the one I had in there had a very small scratch on it. Trouble is, I knew about the scratch (didnt bother me) but it was a precision screen and they replaced it with a standard EG-A so I'm now waiting for them to come back to me with a solution to that particular issue. I now have two EG-A and no EG-S...
