Hi Everyone,

It has been a while since I posted. Nevertheless, this afternoon, I asked my wife to model for me. Any feedback is very much appreciated. The Fake magazine cover was a bit fun on my behalf, but the Mrs was thrilled.

Lighting was two strobes. One an Umbrella at left side 90 degress, and the second, a small soft box at left 45 degress. Both 580EXIIs were fired using canon's wireless transmitter. Lens: Prime 85mm, Body: Canon 5D mach II

I was aming for the Rembrandt lighting technuiqe, I think I kind of pulled it off!!

Anyways, Feedback sought and highly regarded.

Cheers,

NicholasBB

The pose, which has her looking out of the corner of her eye, is nice, but would like to have seen more of the "far" eye. Asian women, (I assume your wife is Japanese?), have the most beautiful, exotic, almond shaped eyes. Your wife's eyes are very pretty and her short hair really accentuates them. I would just have liked to seen at least one shot with her eyeballs slightly more centered.

I know you were going for Rembrant Lighting and you made a good attempt, there is a triangle of light on the far side. There is a bit of stray light by her nose that I can't figure out but I'm probably overthinking that. I would like to have seen a hair light on the top of her hair, but if you don't have extra lights, it isn't a deal breaker.

On a serious shot, I like to get a variety in the expression, mouth closed with a soft, satisfied, grin, mouth slightly open with teeth showing a little bit etc. Just something to think about, but I always like to get one where the mouth is completely closed, absolutely no teeth showing, because that shows the shape of the lips. A smile, even a slight one, "stretches" the lips, losing the shape and that is ok because the trade off there is that you get an expression, but I always shoot for one shot that really shows off the natural shape of the lips. In this case, her teeth showing doesn't alter the shape of her lips at all because she isn't "stretching" them. The cupid's bow on her upper lip is beautifully shaped and I think it would stand out more if you had done a shot that the teeth didn't compete for attention. You probably DID, but are only showing two images.

I'm just throwing out "food for thought", as some people never think about those nitpicky things and it is something to consider in the future when you have a model with pretty lips and pretty eyes. You might want to throw in a couple of poses where you direct the expressions to make the most of those features. A huge smile will not only kill the natural shape of the lips, but the eyes close up and wrinkles form at the corners of the eyes. That isn't a BAD thing, that shows personality, I'm just saying the serious shot has a place for different reasons and it's nice to include it in a shot list.

I don't know about the feather thing in the first shot, it is a bit distracting to me and it gives her wings behind her head, but ok. I wish she had worn earrings, simple earrings, but still, she looks unfinished. I like that you kept it simple in that regard, that simple elegance seems to suit her look better. She is very pretty.

Overall, I think you did a terrific job with these, she should be pleased with the results! My nitpicking is only my opinion and something to think about and consider if my suggestions would suit the particular subject you have in front of you. I"m sure she was thrilled with being on the "Cover" of a magazine, very cute idea!

Hi,

Sue your feedback C+C is the best I have ever gotten. You really seem to know what your talking about and I have made a mental note of all your suggestions. I have a few more from this series which I will try and post as they may be more along the lines of what you have written.

Many Thanks,

NicholasBB
