I have been contacted by an owned of a new Pizza Restuarant that will be opening up soon. He wants me to take photos of their soft opening night and then they want to turn those into prints to hang on the walls.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? It seems pretty easy. The owner mentions that he wants photos of people eating and enjoying the pizza. I definately will give the owner what he wants, but I want to get some other stuff to give him more options that he wasn't thinking of. I am thinking of images that are a little more obstract. I want to work in the eating and making of the pizza in a more 'artsy' ( i hate that word) and abstract kind of way.

My only real idea would be to use my 50 and 85, shoot wide open, and get some very narrow depth of field stuff.

Thoughts?

You'll need Model Release Forms from anyone who might appear in the printed images.

I am not too concerned about the model releases since the owner is only inviting his family to the opening night.

I also hope to frame the images and control the depth of field so that you may not know who is actually in the image.

See if you can go into the kitchen and get some shots of the pizzas being prepared. Maybe throwing the dough in the air, close up of a ladle with sauce going onto a rolled out crust, close up of cheese being sprinkled on - that sort of thing.

How about the staff standing in front of the restaurant in their aprons?

Lighting is the key to this kind of shoot. If possible, I'd go a day or so early to check out the temperature and intensity of the existing lighting to see if it can be used or if you'll need to use external lighting. Don't shoot from eye level...produces boring images, in general.
I also think your 24-70 f/2.8 would give you more flexibility. I don't see shallow dof being desirable in this type of shoot.
