Since I know most of you shoot Canon I figured this Nikon announcement (rumor) would interest you guys because Canon has an event scheduled that day (Oct 26th) as well.

that sounds like a nice Nikon. Looks like around $4000, it'll be interesting to see how it sells in this economy.

36 mp for a mid-level dSLR? What will the high-end look like? This is almost 2x the current Canon's highest resolution....it sounds like too much.

Its 50% more resolution than the current high end slr's (d3x) and about the same pixel pitch as the D7000.

Could be quite genuine.

don't forget that Canon are about to release a 54mp camera, so the resolution on this one is already obsolete :)

i trust canon rumors. the 5d3 will not come out this year. Canon's preparing it's new launch of the 4k video and will likely reveal the 5d3 next year. i could be wrong, but it is smart marketing on canon's behalf, especially since it will foray more into the high def video market.

Others on that site are saying the same thing. Lot's of people upset saying 36MP is too much but it will have very good resolution in DX mode.

Canon and Nikon always seem to make these announcements at the same time. Plus there is this: http://www.canonrumors.com/2011/09/october-26-event/ (external link)

yeah! YEAH!

I hoped about 2 Years for the Day to come, when Nikon finally decides to increase the pixel-density to 20Mpix and +.

Why?

Well for me as a Canon 5DII User whos waiting for a Replacement. The only big, always quoted Advantage of the 5D to the D700, was its higher resolution.

But the D700 is in my own opinion the "rounder" (better) Camera.
-auto iso
-better autofocus
-light metering connectable to every focus-point
-higher frame rate

Canon now has no other choice but to improve all the limitations of their 5D to keep competitive. If they go 56Mpix with the same autofocus and nothing else. I would finally switch.

+1 I hear ya, re the D700 I agree. 5D feels like a such a slow camera in terms of handling, we need more than just faster AF with more points, FPS, shutter lag, view finder blackout, x-sync all need improvement. It's has been such a long wait at the end of the day it's Canon that is missing out on a lot of sales.

Looks like Sony will release a similar camera as well.

They should really just ditch the mirror all together. All it's doing is blocking light. If Nikon did this I would quickly switch to Canon.

SLT must be heavily secured with patents, but hope Nikon&Canon figure out something similar or just $$$ it from Sony.

The cost of these new models are really out of reach for most hobbyists. Too bad because these look so promising.
