I have been asked to shoot a local youth figure skating event in about a month and I was wondering if any of you have done this and do you have some recommendations on lens and camera set-up. I am planning on meeting them this Sunday to check out the arena and shoot some practice. I have been told that the lighting will not be good and I do not know what if I will be able to shoot with flash. I hope my 2.8 lens will be fast enough but I may need to get an f/1.8 85 or something. However I do not know if this will get me close enough to the action. Maybe the 70-200 will be required. They said I will be inside the glass so that should help.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Rick

I took some shots at the local rink one afternoon for a lady whose daughter was out practicing. They were all shot with my 70-200mm f/2.8 IS at 1/500th sec and ISO 800. I used the flash for the last two pictures. Hope you can get a few ideas from these.
