My Sigma 85mm requires some calibration surprise surprise. Great lens, just has some focus issues at >20'.

Just got this email back from Sigma warranty repair in Canada. This is absurd that you have to pay for service for a product that was purchased properly from a reputable company with "international warranty"

I will not be taking this lightly and this may very well end up being my last sigma product if they don't take steps to correct this money grab attempt.

Hello,

If you require service, please forward your item for repair to us at:

Gentec International
90 Royal Crest Court
Markham, On
L3R 9X6
Attn Service

As your lens is covered by Sigma Japan’s one year international warranty and not Gentec’s ten year warranty, it is subject to a one time service fee of $50.00 and must be returned to us with a copy of the warranty card and a legible copy of the bill of sale as per Sigma Japan. Please be sure to include a short note explaining the problem you are having as well as your return address and email information. When received, we will proceed from that point.

Sincerely

yep...Sigmas internatioal warranty means nothing. As far as Im aware it can only be serviced/fixed in the country of purchased.

good luck though.

No, I it was not a Grey market lens.

if you bought it in canada from an authorized dealer, i don't understand why it wouldn't be just under the canada warranty...

why's it under the japan warranty then?

Yeah, sounds like the retailer's fault and not Sigma's...

i think that's pretty much the equivalent of grey market...you bought from adorama, but live in Canada...if you wanted the Canada warranty you'd have to buy from an authorized Canadian dealer...which adorama is not

hopefully you saved more than $50

o.k....maybe not grey market...but still you didn't buy it from an authorized canadian dealer, so sigma canada won't honor the warranty, and you don't have a US address so sigma US won't either...i think you'll have to find where you send things back to for international work...i googled it and came back with nothing

you could try pming Helen here, and see if she knows anything:

I looked on sigmas site, and with regards to the uk any item imported where tax (import or uk vat) not paid is regarded as a grey import and not covered by their guarantee.

i'd say that's grey. anything not purchased from your country's official distributor.

i don't get why people complain about this, you bought it elsewhere circumventing your canadian distributor but when a problem comes you want them to shoulder the cost?

at best, you should send it to adorama/US distributor.

the Canadian 'version' will include info on how to get those 10 years... Adorama doesn't sell Canadian 'version' of any Sigma lenses
send it to Sigma USA for warranty service, or pay the $50 to have it serviced in Canada... as noted, that's a 1-time $50 fee, basically to register it here... any future issues, you should be covered (for that year)

Hey there, first post, but long time reader.

I recently bought a Sigma 85mm 1.4 from Broadway Camera because they give you a gift when you buy a Sigma lens that's 700 -1100 dollars, I got the Gary Fong lightsphere collapsable basic kit.

Anyways, I encourage you to see if you can return the sigma lens. I find Sigma lenses aren't worth buying from B&H/Adorama or used, because Gentec has a great 10 year CDN Warranty.

10 years!

You don't say how long you've had it? Could you please email me with your order number: Helen@adorama.com (external link)
