It was bought from adorama with 1 year sigma international warranty.

That's grey market... for CANADA.

It's NOT grey market... for AMERICANS.

I don't see the problem here. You are Canadian. You took a risk buying grey market. I did too, I bought my Sigma 30 1.4 from the US so it's automatically grey market, and I knew that from the start.

Canon warranty is different. They have a north american warranty, so buying from an authorized dealer in the US still qualifies us to get warranty service here in Canada.

Okay. Understood now. Got another email from Genitech canada. They act like I'm some sort of thief and are now claiming I will owe labour costs as well if I understand correctly.

What is an international warranty? Could someone please answer that. Genitech will not even answer that. What is an international warranty for? I called and asked Adorama when I purchased to make sure I would at least have 1 year warranty in Canada and they said I would.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I'm curious of how it all ended.

Any news?

It states on our website:USA Warranty
Under Items Included:
1 Year International Warranty plus 3 Year Sigma U.S.A. Extended Warranty (Total Warranty is 4 Years from Date of Purchase)

It's covered in Canada for the first year. But it comes with 3 additional year (total 4 year warranty) - but for those other 3 years, it's only covered in the USA. Customer would be responsible for customs, duties, taxes on shipping both ways to and from Canada.

Curious, does that mean that all Sigmas in North America get repaired in Markham Ontario?

Score 1 for Canucks if they do.

I think there are a few 'Sigma' depots in the USA for American customers

No. The warranty depot are different locations. Sigma Canada has a 10 yr warranty on EX lenses and 6 yr for non.

Sigma US does the repairs for the US and Gentec looks after Canadian warranty. No point in buying a sigma lens out of country if you are in Canada. The added warranty is worth the extra bucks.
