http://www.canonrumors.com …-36mp-will-canon-respond/ (external link)

The megapixel war is on
We were told a while ago (external link) about a big megapixel camera coming from Nikon, the date of the announcement was wrong, but it doesn’t appear the camera is.

Nikon Rumors is reporting a 36mp D800 (external link) coming in the next 30-60 days at a 99% probability.

Why does a Canon site care?
Lots of people speculated Canon was waiting for a Nikon announcement to decide how to proceed. If Nikon announces this camera and is able to delivery before the year closes out, I don’t think Canon has any choice but to respond in some way.

What about responding to a big megapixel camera with a small megapixel, high ISO performance full frame camera [here (external link)] & [here (external link)]?

My village called. I was told that they missed me.

Speedotron users, untie!

Small body 36mp dslr for under 3k? That'd be heaven for a landscape photographer like myself.

man screw the megapixel race. if any, a slight increase in mp is good for canon. i think nikon is trying to provoke a megapixel race in order to try to get canon to pay less attention to high iso noise quality in which in my opinion, nikon came out the clear winner last time.

I thought slow, high megapixel cameras that staked their claim in the low ISO realm was Canon's forté.

After homerun after homerun it looks like Nikon is fallable afterall.

This just means the 5D3 will have to come out sooner than later.

I would not mind 24-28MP on a FF sensor, but up to 36? Hard drive space would go away so quickly (more then it already does).

Actually, Nikon currently takes the cake with the D3x, although the 5D2 isn't far behind.

Just that it costs so much and has a mishmash of other features more suited to a fast, high-ISO action camera than a studio/portable landscape camera (e.g. inbuilt grip) that most people pretend it doesn't exist.
