Direct from the Apple "Lets Talk iPhone" Conference!

“What’s the new camera on the iPhone 4S like? It starts with an 8 megapixel sensor.”

“CMOS backside illuminated sensor — gets 73% more light than the iPhone 4 sensor, and 1/3rd faster. On top of that, we place a high-end IR filter for greater accuracy and uniformity.”

“We have an amazing lens system, five lens elements. It’s now a really wide f2.4. Compared to most point and shoots we can let in a lot of light.”

Oh, and Phil almost forgot to tell us about the Apple designed ISP, which enables stuff like face-detection and auto-white balance. “And that chip takes super fast photos. What do we mean?”

Other phones take 2-3x longer to shoot. “What do Droid Bionic customers have to do between taking pictures? Get coffee?”

Apple blew this one big time. People expected an IPhone5, and Apple failed to manage the rumor mill. Same size screen, same case. Big deal. This is going to be an expensive mistake for Apple.

I've never been a big apple fan (or owned any apple equipment other than a "classic" ipod), but this release was pretty lackluster overall. I am, however, interested in seeing what the real-life photos from this phone look like. a 5-element f/2.4 lens in a phone?? If they are actually a decent quality, this would make a fantastic P&S camera to just have on you at all times (assuming you buy a new iPhone 4S).

Most ATT users cannot even upgrade until the end of their contract. Verizon won't allow upgrades until November 2013! Apple knows what they are doing, and they are saving the good one until current users can upgrade.

For a sprint customer like myself who is also thinking about a small camera to compliment my dslr, the 4s is fine. I'm in.

thats not true at all for verizon..If you have a package that exceeds a certain price point you can upgrade everyyear for the 2year contract price..I did it last yer and I am going to do it this year..I cant wait to get rid of this POS samsung fascinate..This is the worst piece of unreliable garbage I ever used.

Does it take a photo when you press the button, or two seconds later like every other cell phone camera?
