need help on how to achieve a shot

I want to do a shot of a model outside at night in the rain. I have two ab800 strobes. And two sigma flashes. I want to gel the flash with say a blue gel to make the rain behind/around her colored. And use my ab800 to light her. How can i pull this off without drowing out the colored rain.

You are really talking about two exposures in one!

• Exposing your subject, illuminated with one or two lights
  
• Exposing the raindrops in the background, with one gelled light (and this is probably a different exposure in order to get better color saturation of the bluish rain)

...but the problem is that in illuminating the subject, the rain in the foreground will be illuminated white, not blue.

If the subject is outside in the rain, there will always be rain between the subject and the llight unless you place something overhead to keep the rain out between them.

BTW, just as an aside, rain and AB strobes don't mix so make sure the strobes are well protected from the rain. Besides the risk of shorting out the strobes, there's an even bigger danger of electrocuting yourself when trying to make adjustments on the strobe.

Im thinking of having the model stand outside my back door. Mee inside and alien bee inside shooting through a window

If I reading it right, have the model stand outside a garage door so your equipment stays dry placing the subject right out side......back lighting with gels will require a shelter for that light. Hope I was understanding the shot?

Gel the subject in the opposite color that you want the rain to be and use the neutral reference for white balance. If you go a full CTO and then correct it post with WB everything that isn't lit by the gelled light will be a full CTB.

Does she have to get very wet? Why not set up the shot & have a couple people with hoses put the "rain" right where you need it?
And you get to stay dry.

I vote this way.... and how about maybe pumping water with blue dye in it to make it blue instead of gels on the lights...
