So sad... We can only imagine what he could have done with another 10 years... The world has lost a great man.

Sad day indeed... I wonder which out of all the gadgets etc he was responsible for... which he was most proud of.

Love or hate him, the man DID change the face of modern technology.

He proved you didn't have to be a geek to use it, that it could be simplified for anyone to access.

With out him and his ideals I wonder if the GUI would have advanced to level that it has on our computers, our phones, our cars, you name it.

Very sad

Even though he died at only 56, he did enough living for 10 lifetimes. R.I.P. Mr. Jobs.

One of the most memorable lines in science fiction: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain."

That is fiction, but somehow seems appropriate here. Steve Jobs saw the world in ways few people are even capable. His innovation brought to life ideas that people did not believe in, only fantasized about. He made fiction reality. We've lost one of the greatest innovators and cultivators of ideas in our generation and who knows when we will see another?

"The light that burns twice as bright burns for half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly..."

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

I'm not a fan of the image that apple is using marking his life (though it was Steve's favorite). My favorite Steve Jobs image of all is this one:

My homage to Steve Jobs. I took this self-portrait in Fall 1984 with my 1st computer, Apple Mac 128k, the original!

RIP Steve, I've NEVER owned a WinTel computer.
QUOTED IMAGE

But, you do own a MacTel computer...so I guess it's only 50% evil ;)

There is no denying that the look and feel of modern consumer electronics has been driven by Steve and left the others scrambling. I wonder if Apple can continue that kind of singular vision and drive with him gone. It's kind of a bad sign that he leaves and all Apple does is release an iterative version of one of their flagship products.

I had my first Mac in 1986, a Mac classic, today, 20 plus years I make my living in front of a Mac.
