There is an option in the video menu to stop sound recording.

This is covered on page 156 & 157 of the manual if that helps.

For casual use, a hot shoe mount stereo microphone makes a noticeable difference. However, audio levels can't be adjusted on the 7D. For serious video, shooters rely on an external recorder and sync the sound in post.

How did I miss that. Read the manual. Still, don't know how I missed it. Thanks.

I shoot video for real estate, so everything gets "covered up" with voice over. Thanks for the mic recommendation.

Alternatively, you can just mute the audio channel in your video editor...

It's easy to miss stuff in the manual. ;)

Just don't forget to turn it back on when you shoot a video of your kid's birthday party! ;)

Okay, so I figured out why I couldn't find this. The start stop needs to be in movie mode for this to work. confusing but done.

Really? Why? Ever listen to the sound of a birthday party with a bunch of little kids? There's a word specific to that sound - it's "cacophony". :D

;)

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!
