I may have the chance to move over seas and work for a year in the desert. So i am looking into buying a pelican case to store my gear in and to transport it on the plane over. I am looking towards pelicans due to the weather resistance and lock ability of the cases but I do not know what one. I saw the thread already but rather than go through the whole thread id ask and get direct recommendations. I was looking towards the 1514 for carry on size.

1. What case?
2. foam or padded inserts?
3. have you traveled on a plane with it? do you zip tie them closed?
4. Am I better to bring it as luggage or have it shipped over?

Ideally the smaller the better. My gear now, that needs to fit.
Gripped T3i, kit lens, 50mm, 70-300mm, 2 yn-flashs, triggers, batteries, chargers, filters, misc items.

I will also be expecting to purchase a 70-200 2.8 is, and 5D Mark II with 24-105mm f/4L as the paychecks roll in.

I am also thinking about picking up the laptop case as well for my 17" anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance!

I would go with the 1540 (or whatever the 1500 series roller is) with dividers not foam.

1) If youre going to be traveling by plan dont get anything larger than the 1510.
2) Get the 1514 which is the 1510 with the padded dividers. The foam wears out quickly.
3) No, but if I did I would most certainly do SOMETHING to "lock" the case if checking it in.
4) I would carry it with me and ship or check in my other stuff! My camera gear is worth way more!

From your gear list and future gear list, you should be fine to hold it all in the 1514.

When you get that laptop, look into this case that mounts in the lid of the 1514 to hold it: LINK (external link)

I travel all over the world with my Pelican 1514 Padded Dividers as a carry on. The only time I don't carry on but plane side check are on the small commuter planes that you basically can't carry anything on but they do allow you to carry it to the plane and hand it to them and then give it back to you when you get of. I also carry a lock for it and keep it locked at all time while traveling. Good rugged case for traveling and storage. You won't be disappointed

When I checked into getting the laptop sleeve My 16inch widescreen would not fit as the dimensions they talk about were for the the normal square screen as the wide screens more popular now are wider. this was about a 1 1/2 years ago. Anybody use the extra cases like the link above and have any luck fitting their computer in it?
