I am a budding photographer, and have been getting a lot of work recently by word of mouth ( Weddings, engagements, family portraits). I was recently approached to do some commercial work for a larger company in my city. They are looking for some basic shots of 7 of their dealerships, that are spread out across the province. Having never done any sort of commercial work before, i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how you would price this. They would like a 24"x36" print of each place, as well as the use of the pictures for their websites. Any info would be great!!! Thanks!!1

I'd charge a half day or day rate for my time, charge for travel, an hourly charge for processing work and helping the customers make selections, then minimal charges for prints. Here in NZ i'd be charging between $500-$1000/day, it's not worth your time otherwise, when you take overheads into account.

I'm not a commercial photographer.

Since you said province I am going to assume Canada since you don't have your location in your profile.

I did some commercial work for a multi-national corporation this summer and charged them 1250.00 per day plus expenses. As the job required a fair bit of travelling and they paid .40 per km and a daily per diem for meals. This is exactly the work that I chase and it took alot of effort to land this one but I already have it nailed down for next summer as well. There was licensing on top of this and a surcharge as I couldn't display the pictures for 3 years due to a NDA I had to sign (this was for research and development in their product division) and this was rolled up into one charge. I would charge 355.00 for a 24x36. I billed on a 30 day cycle and gave them a 3.5% break if they paid inside of 21 days (which they missed most months).

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
