Hello all, this is my first time posting in peoples so please bare with me. this organization on my campus is hosting a small formal dinner and they've asked me to take photos for them, they offered to make a booth and just have me bring my equipment. they will be using their own backdrop.

here's what i have to work with, 70-200 2.8 IS. and my 28-135mm, a 430EXII and 2 youngnuo external flashes, now i only have 2 remotes so i was thinking of just putting the 2 youngnuos on stands on my left and right.

the other way I was thinking of setting up lighting is to point 1 flash at the ceiling and the other one at targets.

what do you guys think?

Do you have umbrellas, softboxes, or other modifiers? It sounds like you don't.

If the ceiling is plain white and relatively low (up to about ten or twelve feet) then the ceiling-bounced flash will work. I'd put that one on pretty high power, then use the other flash at low power at approximately the camera axis (maybe even on the hotshoe) to soften any shadows under chins, noses, eye sockets, etc.

If the ceiling is painted a color, or very high, then it'll be tough to get anything good from the bounced flash. If the walls are a very bold color, bounced flash will probably give a color cast, even if you're primarily bouncing off the ceiling, it'll still bleed over.

Remember that the Yongnuos can probably be operated in slave mode, so you can use all three flashes with only one remote (if all three flashes are off-camera) or no remotes (if you put the 430EXII on the hotshoe).

I do have 2 umbrellas, but other than that no light modifiers whatsoever. I never planned on doing portraits and booth setups, this would be my first. the ceiling is fairly low (12-15ft) and yes it is white. I don't think ceiling bounce should be a problem since the banquet room they booked has a fairly low ceiling, thanks for the tips I'll def be playing around to see what the best setup is. the only variable factor i'm worried about is the backdrop, it might be pink (breast cancer awareness ball) or purple and black (their greek colors) . thanks for the advice I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of test shots during setup before anyone shows up.
