Don't try to juggle half-a-dozen baskets of eggs - put all your eggs in one, safe, basket. I have one card that will handle a whole day's shooting. The only way that card is going to go through the laundry is if I accidentaly stick my camera, or my PC, in the washing machine.

Over 12 years of CF usage and I've never had one fail (well, one - but that was my fault because I removed it from a PDA while it was writing a whole bunch of data).

But theres always a first time for everything. Dont you feel a little bit nervous not splitting them up because its not like you can ask the wedding party to come back and get dressed again

About as nervous as I feel walking around with no protection against a meteorite hitting me.

Not only have I had zero failures over 12 years, but file-recovery software would be able to rescue the majority of possible problems. If I were doing something where I could lose a lot of cash if a card failed then I'd buy a 1D with its dual-card functionality.

You mention flimsy SD cards, but I feel more paranoid with all those pin's on CF cards getting damaged although I never hear many cases of that.

-Mario

I am not worried about all those pins in my camera. It has a great guide to made sure it goes in straight, however, I owned a card reader that I did bend a pin with a CF card. I junked it and bought a better and more expensive card reader. It has a good guide like the camera.

You get what you pay for.

I go with Frank here. Yes, have backup cards, but the only thing that will save you from a card failure is to have a 1D body with the dual cards...

I got a couple of 16gb Duracell 600x speed for under £30 each. They have a 10 year guarentee with them so I figure they can't be all that bad and as I've never had a problem with any of the Duracell products I've ever brought I'm confident they'll be okay. My biggest problem is finding a USB 3 internal card reader for the PC to speed up my transfers.

I don't know of any internal USB 3 readers. However, this one (external link) works well for me. Many thousands of images transferred with no problems. My PC didn't have USB3 so I installed an add-on card. I have also used it at tournaments downloading over 12,000 images per tournament to a Dell laptop with USB3 ports. Cards varied from SD to CF Lexar, Kingston, Sandisk, Transcend. All worked with no problems encountered.
