Hi All,

Was at a wedding today and the shutter went on my 1DSMK2, one shot all was fine, then I thought the strap had swung in front of the lens, the next shot I thought where is that flair coming from? it then it dawned on me the shutter was on its way out.

If you want to see what it looks like when it goes look at these pics - not good!! only saving grace was the pictures just before were really nice and at least the shutter went on some chance snaps that don't really matter.

200,000 actuations - oh no 26,475, just over 10% what Canon rates this shutter for:cry:, just one of those things I suppose, not too pleased so off it goes to CPS UK next week for a repair and service.

The camera is just a storage box, it's the gLass in front that makes the image...

It does, I opened it up on Bulb and the shutter blades are rippled and crippled and now jammed solid with the camera throwing up a error code 99.

I still love the 1DS MK2 though, such a beautiful camera to use.

yeh I use 2 bodies for a wedding 1DS mk2 and a 5D mk2 with a spare 5D Mk1 in the car for back up which I was thankful for this time and tomorrow when I do my 3rd wedding in 3 days...

It's really pretty amazing, how many cameras and/or other photo gear items fail for unknown reasons during weddings, in particular.

I've only shot a handful of weddings personally (I try to avoid them)... and have had gear failure or breakage at three different weddings.

One time it was a locked up shutter in a film camera that worked fine before and after the wedding. It was sent in for a CLA a short time later and still works fine today, but I'm keeping it away from weddings.

Another time an assistant dropped some gear and put a camera temporarily out of commission (broken battery holder... I got several spares after that).

Third time I made it through the ceremony unscathed, but at the reception a drunk guest stepped on gear I thought I'd stashed in a safe place (destryoing a flash).

Meanwhile, I've shot all kinds of fast and furious sporting events, wild and wooly wildlife, remote travel locations, backpacked and camped with gear, and used it under very harsh conditions, sent it to a destination through UPS/Fedex, carried it onto airplanes... all with reasonable care of course... but very rarely had any problems and almost no failures.. ever (knock on wood!).

Call me superstitious.. But I really hate taking my gear to weddings! I always feel like I'm putting it at risk...

If there's any place that a 1D series camera... built like a tank... will fail after only slightly more than 10% of the predicted shutter life, it's at a wedding!
