The Coopers Hawk capture shows its satin-like feathers wonderfully.

Thanks everyone for your comments,

That mature Cooper's is a pretty regular visitor here and takes a fair number of House Sparrows and the occasional Chipmunk. Fortunately we haven't lost any of our regulars to him. I shot the closeup portrait with the SX30 at 1428mm (2mp TC crop), and Temple captured the full bird shot with the S5-IS and the Sony 1.7x glass TC at 735mm.

Levina - We do get various hawks here pretty often, though we rarely get good shots of them. Here are a couple of favorites which I'm not sure we posted here...
