I know .... I know ... if you're not 50 or older you have no idea what a Canon Q17 is...right? It is a rangefinder built by Canon in the early to late 1970's. Sometimes called the "poor man's Leica" ... it was never that good! But for its time a wonderful fast rangefinder that is gaining some traction has I hear so much about "mirrorless" cameras. The Q17 is mirrorless!

I purchased a few of these on e-Bay years ago for about $40 (or less).

Here is the actual camera I took to Maui with me:

RESULTS: Liked the size and build quality. Disliked fixed ISO, grainy film, no interchangeable lens, fixed white balance, and cost of processing.

But you simply cannot ignore the experience. Experience of knowing how to take pictures and setup the camera accordingly. Experience of the wait until developed. Experience of just slowing down and enjoying the day without shooting a 1,000 images. That said I would never consider using anything near this for my professional work!!

A few images from the week in Maui....Enjoy:

Wow, that think looks brand new. My G-III QL17 has a ding on the top cover, but it works great otherwise. I have an MR9 adapter for using 1.5V silver oxide batteries. I've thought about opening it up and adjusting the meter pot, but these cameras are so tightly packed I'm afraid I'd screw something up. Great camera and great optics in a nice, small package.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I recently came across my grandfather's (who passed away a couple of years ago) old Voightlander Vito II. I found a roll of film in the closet, so I decided to see if the camera still works. I keep forgetting to drop the roll off to get developed.....I cant wait to see how the pics come out! I have figured, with some internet searching that this camera was produced somtime between 1949 and 1954....

Yep. I gave up on finding a correct battery a long time ago. Can't use mercury anymore and for good reasons. I just shoot all manual. Like it better anyway as it challenges me for proper exposure settings ... Dan
