I cancelled my preorder of 3 Pocket Wizard Plus IIIs and ordered a set of Odins, 1 transmitter and 2 receivers. It came out to about the same price. They should be here tomorrow :-) Looks like I can stay in manual like I'm used to, or try out E-TTL...either way, being able to adjust flash output from camera regardless of E-TTL or manual mode should be really nice!

Anyone know if this will work with the new 5D Mk 3? Need to know if it's compatible before pulling the trigger.

Odin works perfectly with my 5D3. Manual & ETTL shots seems to be working just fine as with my 5D2.
Never had misfire issue. Though I haven't really actually tried past 1/250 sync.

Thanks Virsago. So the sync speed on 5D3 is 1/250? not bad.

Finally picked up the Phottix Odin a couple of weeks ago and I am not overly impressed so far but I am going to give them more time and see what firmware updates they come out with. Overall they are more convenient than Radio Poppers but with a lot fewer options. As noted they are very simple to use as they only offer two options: groups or ratios. The full stop manual flash adjustments makes them almost worthless for manual mode especially after having 32 levels of manual flash adjustment when using RP PX Groups or 1/3 stop adjustments with Canons wireless system but hopefully they'll get this fixed with a future firmware update. I like the rear cutain in wireless although this is not something that I have much need for but it nice to know it is available. The ability to mix manual and ETTL is a nice feature but here again the Radio Poppers offer more creative options than the Odins but the fact that the Odin allows for control of FEC for each individual group, at the camera no less, is the one thing that I really like about them. I just updated my firmware to the 1.05 version a few nights ago and really like the ability to exit the menu from the on/off button but have not had a chance to work with them to see if they improved the TTL operation (Improved exposure in "Evaluative" metering mode when using bounce flash).

Its not perfect, but its a great option in the wireless world...I can see it getting better in the future. With those RPs you still needed a STE2 or a speedlite as a master this system is independent of that

I just got mine, and I updated the firmware on the transmitter to the most current. didn't do anything with the receivers as I didn't see firmware for them.

When I press the zoom button on the transmitter, and then press either - or +, nothing happens. nothing changes on the LCD screen, and I don't hear the flash zooming in or out.

also, when I select manual on the transmitter, I don't see manual mode display on the flash.

I used the latest firmware to update both my receivers and transmitter. 3 of my receivers had 1.04 version updates and 1 was 1.02 and now they are all showing 1.05. Just to be sure I updated and then tested only one receiver first before doing all of mine but I figured since the update included better ttl performance that the receivers needed updating as well.

also seeing an issue where for some reason, my shutter speed defaults to 1/200 and won't let me change it. I turned my camera off and back on, and was able to select 1/18000.

When you plug in the receiver the software reconizes it and you should see the update software...In "M" mode Manual wont be displayed on the flashes LCD, just keep the flashed in TTL mode at all times. When you press the ZOOM on the TCU and make adjutments press the shutter release halfway and see what happens....

nada. pressing zoom and then trying to make adjustments....nothing happens on the LCD of the transmitter, and nothing on the 580 ex II LCD

so as long as the transmitter is in manual mode, and however I change power output, the flash will be in manual mode even though it's still showing ETTL?

now I am using just a 50mm f/1.2 L prime, but should I still be able to adjust zoom if I want a narrower or wider coverage?

Yes...the mode on the flash wont change. Adjust the power levels and take some pics you will see the difference.
