I have to be honest and say that my flash photography isnt all that great, i only have a sunpak at the moment, but its my birthday and can have a new flash, my options are either

1. canon 430 ex mk2

2. nissin DI 866 mk2

both within my budget of around £200

i really need the advice of those of you whom know which would be better for me, i am leaning towards the nissin with more functions and the updates if i upgrade my camera in the future.

I'm in the same market... I hope someone give a little feedback too. That Nissin looks pretty nice, especially for the price on eBay.

Have you considered a yong nuo 565? Supposed to be a clone of the 580exii just without hss, would be cheaper than either of those you listed

I would say from those 2 I would go for the 480 but then again I would as I have an almost brand new one for sale hehe. Read somewhere on here that the Nissin's have reliability issues too.

my 430 exii is great! Ive had my umbrella stand crash a handful of times out in the field with a good gust of wind and this is well built and well worth the cash. I just picked up a Yonguo YN - 460 ii as a back up and it works great, but build quality is 'get what you pay for' imho.

I realize I'm not exactly qualified to comment, having only a G12....but I saved up and bought a 580EX II based on my son's advice.. he has a 5Dc... and has a 430. He told me to hold out until I could afford the 580EX II... I just bought one..and I'm very happy with the results so far.. I still have a lot to learn

Stick with the Canon 430EX, the 580EX if you can swing it.

Ok thankyou all,
so another question, if i could afford the 580 would my 350d menu run the flash or is this something that only the higher spec bodies can do?
I dont see that changing my body just yet is an option.
