Out on the rails today and the forecasted sunshine never seemed to bless us, and made me wish I had stayed home and cut grass instead, but I did catch this long mixed freight headed downhill with a pair of GE Dash C44-9W on the head end of the lash up along with CN 5796 an EMD S75i braking hard.

Good shot.

wish I had stayed home and cut grass instead

A bad day taking pics is better than any day cutting grass!

Sun is good, but I enjoy overcast days just as much...especially if it means I'm NOT cutting grass!

But now it is going to rain on and off for a few days, and I could be looking at a nicely cut yard, instead of one needing a good trim...plus saved about 30 bucks in gas driving around looking for some decent light and background, as there seemed to be this layer of thin white cloud, that just made everything look like crap when any sky was in the photo. It broke up nicely shortly after this photo was taken, but then clouded over for good, and of course when the light is the best it will be, no train will ever rumble through........LOL

Ah, but it's the challenge of chasing a great shot that makes getting a great shot so rewarding, no?? If we didn't know failure, we wouldn't appreciate success! But I hear ya...;)

Sure, but according to the forecast, I had hoped to get that shot, except with the train going uphill, with throttles set to wide open and exhaust gases erupting into the sky in a magnificent heat haze, as the locos strain to lift the tonnage on the grade.

Part of the joy of being there is hearing that battle, and I so wished I could have been around to see steam battle the grade.
