^^^^Well my wife helps with it and the neighbors are cool. I'm expecting my clients will be ok with it as well. All is legal too.

Are they different links than they were last October?

As a guy on the witness stand once said, "Maybe yes. And maybe no."

Whenever I watch this guy's videos, on the pullback, you know what it reminds me of?

Big Businesses have started from Garages before. So i would just say keep the Quality High and keep the Customer Happy

We should remember that at some point Steve Jobs invited investors over to the garage to look at the first Apple computer

I know friends wouldn't mind but what about your average client?

Go for it, just let clients know in order to keep cost's as low as possible you work out of both your 'Home Studio" and on location.

It's been eleven years since I started this tread. I wanted to check in and tell you how it's worked out. As far as clients go, I haven't had any complaints or seen any evidence of reservation when anyone enters the studio. I attribute this to the cleanliness and isolation of non essential areas, like the laundry area, with black curtains. Also even though I know it's not ideal, I never apologize or bring attention to that fact.

I haven't used it as a garage for over 15 years now but I didn't actually remove the garage door motor, and tracks until last year. I then bolted the garage door in place for security. Now I'm at the final stages of designing a remodel which will legally turn the garage into living space, but in my case a studio. I have been set up with the city and state as a home based business, so I'm good there. My first plans included a loft, new roof, and foundation and were estimated at $200K! So now I'm going with vaulted ceiling and panel door system and dropping the loft with porch. The large sliding panel opening will be glass. Since the studio length is only 23' I could open the panels and shoot from outside if I need more working distance. I will also be able to use them for window light and there will be smart black out shades. The laundry area will be completely enclosed and I'll have my darkroom set up in the same space.

Thanks for the update. We are just beginning to develop a plan for our second home on 15 acres in the southern portion of our residence state. We have a house planned, a horse barn and an outbuilding which will include a nice little area for photography. I was initially concerned about having a space on our property instead of in town. But in talking with people I have found most would rather travel the 15 minutes to a private location with multiple options rather than just one simple studio in town.

That sounds like a wonderful place to set up a studio both for indoor shoots and better yet outdoor shoots.

i just watched a video by Brett Seely (hes in cali someplace) and he was doing a shoot in his garage...

it was drywalled and looked pretty nice. he had the door open for a big, natural light source...

glad it all worked out for you!

That is definitely in the plan. I have outdoor trails, drop offs and a small creek at the back of the property. I hope to create a small bridge across the creek, a pergula or gazebo would be nice, but will not be something right away. With the trails and woods and open land I have so many options and not sure what I want to do eventually. I saw at a local sunflower field last weekend and really loved that. Might have to plant some area with sunflowers, but they only bloom for such a short period of time, I am not sure it would be worth it.
