So I've been happy with my 7d and 5dc combo for awhile now but the time has come to upgrade. I'm leaning toward a new (or gently used) 5d2, but figured I'd see if you guys could talk me into anything else. My partner has the Nikon D3s and while something like that definitely isn't in my price range, I LOVE that thing. I was wondering if any of the Canon pro bodies could be had for around $2500 used and if so, would they be an acceptable substitute for the 5d2?

Canon pro body for 2500... shoot i'll sell you my 1D3 for 2500... kidding (but I srsly would)
You could pick up a 1D2, 1D2N, 1D3, and probably a 1Ds2 for around that price. Most of the 1D4's are still well over 4k and used 1Ds3 will run you over 4K as well (all the ones I've seen).

Noting your signature I would say get the 5D2 and keep the 5Dc for an emergency body. I love the feel of the pro bodies and probably wont buy another body that's not a 1D b/c of how great it fits in my hands. The weight, and build, and button layout, and menus to me are perfect. However, I don't use my 1D's outside sports and use my 5D2 for my everyday walking around body. The 7D is a great body with a great system in it. I'd just upgrade the 5Dc.

I shoot a little black box with a round thingy ma-giggy in the front.

Yea this would be mainly for weddings and portraits, as I'll have the 7d for sports (both for travel/landscapes I suppose).

I'd probably be happy with the weight, build and size of the pro bodies, but I'd also end up gripping the 5d2

I'd wait to hear what is coming out Oct 26.....if nothing new is announced regarding DSLRs, get a 5DII, IMO. Outside the 1dIV, that line is too old. Yes, people will say they still take great pics, but so do film cameras....There is more to using a camera than just the end result.

Like crbeveri, although I have a 1D4, my walk around camera is really the 5D2. At $2k, they are an absolute steal right now. The 1D3 is also an excellent camera but it's resolution is a little low.

Of course, something is probably going to be announced next Tuesday (18 Oct.) I expect it will be available in modest quantites for April / May so that it can go to the Olympics in London.... Assuming I've read the tealeaves correctly, it will be the wrong side of $5000 . Pro's are unlikely to dump their 1D4's but you may see some 1Ds3's offered north of $3000.

Irrespective of its price tag, it will not make the 5D2 any less of a camera.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.
