Question about LR3 Adjustment Brush

Is there a way to use the local adjustment brushes to reduce specific color channels? Specifically, I want to reduce the redness on newborn skin without having to resort to using the clone/heal tools. Reducing the overall saturation doesn't give the results I want.

Any information or guidance is appreciated.

You can open the brush, then click/open the little Color box below the settings. Adjust your settings to lower Saturation and select blue in the color box, and it should get you the results. Give it a try and get back to us!

I agree with Tony. I have used that technique to remove the blue cast from sky light on back-lit architectural subjects by painting with a low saturation yellow brush. (Just lowering the blue saturation overall would affect the sky, too, which is undesirable.) If you're not sure what color to use make an educated guess and paint over the area to be adjusted, then open the color box and move the picker around (both hue and saturation) until you get the desired result.

Hit Shift+Cmd+Opt+S, click and hold on the skin and drag down (HSL, Saturation Targeted Adjustment Tool, same shortcut with H or L for Hue or Luminosity)
Hit Shift+Cmd+Opt+N (Nada), Cmd+3. (Close panel #3)

Done.

Is this localized or will it affect the whole image relating to that color?

With the adjustment target, it will adjust the combination of colors you are sliding over, so it can affect other areas, yes. Try it, and if it "misbehaves" use a local brush!

Whole image. So you have to be subtle about it.

Which, IMO, is a good thing™.

tonylong and Rimmer - thanks for the ideas. I ended up using an adjustment brush with a skin-ish tone color with lower saturation and got decent results. Still used quite a bit of clone/heal on spots, but the brush worked for redish areas.

Rene - Thanks for the suggestion, but if I understood what you were describing properly, then these are still global changes. I did adjust the global hue, saturation and luminocity, but also needed a method to fix smaller areas.

I'm not entirely pleased with the diaper removal, but about as good as I can get with LR and my limited PP abilities.

Thanks again for the tips. Please feel free to C&C the edit.

Maybe still a bit reddish, just pull a back on the reddish slider in the HSL sliders?

He was very red, but I see your point and adjusted the HSL for Red and Orange:

That last one is nice. I use the HSL often. It can be a life saver.
