The first time I tried smoke I had a few good results with my XTi. I did the usual to them, Invert & apply a single color. I got in a new 7D yesterday and figured I'd give smoke a second go (to cloudy for aurora!). This time I wanted to try out more then one color and keep some of the backgrounds black. *yes they are watermarked, but that's how I post them online*

Basic stats: 7D, ISO 100, f/8.0 @ 1/100th + Canon 85mm 1.8. LumoPro flash behind the smoke with cards on it to block light from lens & background @ 1/2 power. Cactus V2 triggers.

C&C always welcome.

Ya, I didn't see that until it was on flickr. I just haven't had time to fix it yet :)

Great shots!!

Check out the Smoke walk-through in my sig, there's a lot of good info for getting your backgrounds pure black and pure white without hurting the smoke. Plus there's some stuff on different ways to color the smoke, both in processing and with gels.

The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked - Photographers shoot to thrill, not to kill

That is really cool. Really like how you create character out of the smoke. I want to try my hand at smoke.

OK, so I may be telling on myself, but 2 and 3 look like figures of women that I "saw" back in my , lets say, earlier and much younger days!!! Great photos, all. Awesome work!

Building the collection slowly..... 7D gripped, 550D gripped and some gLass.... and some other glass.... and some lights....more strobes than you can shake a stick at.... Just a hobby gone out of control....
