so i finally got a chance to try my 30 1.4 at some basketball and it did pretty good. its no 35L which i have no doubt might have performed better under these conditions possibly. but im fairly happy with the results from tonight. it missed a few shots but that could be user error as on a few it locked focus on the ceiling, i was shooting center focus point servo. this focal length worked out nicely when the players are up close to the basket and i know im going to use this lens quite a bit for basketball but i think my 50 1.8 is still going to get some more use until i can convince myself to go for the sigma 50 which i need to confirm can keep up with basketball better than my 50,1.8 otherwise i dont want to spend that kind of money if it cant focus fast enough

some dunks (some cropped but not by very much and some are un-cropped) :D

I bought this lens when it first came out a few years ago and have used it almost exclusively for basketball when on the baseline under the net. It is a good lens and the focus is pretty fast. I think you'll be pretty happy with it.

Used this lense and never thought it could shoot players in mid-air action.

i feel really silly, but im so glad these were test shots as my shutter speed was way to fast for basketball shooting at 1/640 and 1/800. i should have shot at 1/500 to lower my iso a little. and i shot partial metering rather than spot which is what i understand to be the smartest especially with the situation of having backlight and just most of the light source behind the subject.

i learn every time i shoot :D
