Yikes, go out to buy my new Zeiss 100MP and first picture is the seat belt in the backseat of my car and I see lots of purple. Sensor bloom or lens CA?

Canon CMOS sensors don't bloom, AFAIK.

If it's CA, you should see the color change as you change focus.

IMO, it is probably infrared light, from the intense specular highlight, OOF.

To verify this, reproduce it, then put a strong neutral density filter on. If it gets worse, it is IR, as ND filters are poor at stopping IR (they have little density for IR).

Edit: I looked again, and I notice greenish edges further up on the buckle, so it could be (at least in part) the focus-type CA.

Probably both.

Probably both.

Yes, so many optical problems manifest as purple.

IR affects all RAW color channels, usually with a bias for red and blue, and normal daylight WB pushes red and blue even further.

Longitudinal CA gives green or purple depending on focus offset. I guess OOF IR can be considered this, but is purple for a different reason.

Lateral CA can push/pull green and purple or magenta towards/from the center of the image.

Blooming turns purple because green saturates first, then leaks into the not-yet-saturated red and blue pixels, and then normal daylight WB pushes red and blue yet again.

Its over two years later and I sold my Zeiss 100MP F/2 today. I found the longitudinal CA too annoying. I placed an order today for the Zeiss 135 F2 APO and expect better results.

I know a local photographer who refers to that issue as "purple rain" - makes me chuckle -,

That was ugly...

Hope you have better luck with the new lens.

Picked up my new 135 f/2 apo last night. It's incredible. Have not been able to produce any loCa. I owned Hasselblad equipment, Contax G in the past and have never seen a lens like this. The sharpness and color rendition are unsurpassed. Attached is the first shot (and a 100% crop) under really poor lighting (a couple compact fluorescent lights in the room). I need a better body than the 60D to do this lens justice, but will wait for the next generation of Canon bodies. I do agree with what I read, this lens does focus easier than the 100MP, it just "snaps" into focus. Pleased with my move from the 100MP to the 135.

.....Have not been able to produce any loCa.

I also spent time trying to produce CA and failed. The other thing that impressed me was that black really does come out black...more so than any other lens I own.
