Alright so it appears I bought the wrong set of wireless triggers. I bought a set off of ebay about two years ago and have had great success until recently 2 of the receivers crapped out on me.

So i bought another ebay set similar to this one here:

The Problem: The receivers have no hot shoe and the cords provided to not match up/connect to my flashes (1 580exii, and 2 vivitar 285hv's). And as you can see the cord that comes from the wireless receiver is not really removable. I have a couple of cords from my first set of triggers/receivers that fit into my flashes..

**So ultimately my question is would I be able to cut, strip, and solder the old cords onto the new receivers and have them work? I'm not an electrician by any means so I'm not sure if this would work or not. In my mind it should since I would simply be replacing the fitting on the end of the receiver cord...

Thanks for the response, could be a way to go, but at $25 a piece I could just order other triggers off ebay for around that. I'm looking to get 3 flashes off camera so that would be $75. A little steep for me at the moment unfortunately!

Get someone to modify the flashes for you. It cost me about $3 a flash when I did them a while back. You basically add a female 3.5mm jack to each flash. If you can't do it yourself or get a friend to do it, labor would probably cost you just as much as the adapter from Flash Zebra.

To answer your original question, yes it should work. You can also get PC connector to 3.5mm adapters as well.

Yes it should work. Now I say should because there is a chance that the receivers may not switch to a low enough voltage to trigger the flash. This is not a connector problem but how the recievers are designed. (and I won't go into why) But since you have already used some similar triggers then you likely will be OK. If you do have an issue you would see it when using rechargable batteries with the Vivitar flash. The triggering may stop or be intermitant. But again, this has nothing to do with the connections.

I would open up the receivers and solder the old cables right to the circuit board wher the existing cables are connected.
