I use a StopShot for all my timing. I have a custom drop tank built from a 55 gallon aquarium:

HURRY UP!!! - Dry Already! (external link) by IR Cincy Jim (external link), on Flickr

I have a total of Seven Yongnuo YN-560 strobes set up. This shot was using 6 of them. There were 3 behind the backglass (shooting through white glass), and 3 from the front. The two that were camera left, and camera right had blue gels on them. The third front mounted strobe (high, camera center) had a red gel, and was bounced off of the backglass for red fill (from the rear).

Hope that makes sense... :-)

Beautiful Jim.
Has using the custom tank made an improvement in the shots or does it just make life easier?

Cheers, Paul.
If it moves, shoot it. If it shoots back, get a bigger lens.

I think the main difference between my shots and the many others out there is in the reflection. This is entirely due to the tank. When I first started shooting them, I was using high angles, and getting cruddy reflections. I quickly learned that I needed a tank with a much deeper profile. I went through a few iterations before I got it perfect. The tank in the picture is actually Rev 2.0 - the tank I am now using is Rev 3.0, I don't have a picture of that one to post.

That is quite a compliment coming from you, thanks. I stopped by your website, your work is an inspiration. Love the design of your site, too.

Consider yourself bookmarked. I'll be back!

:)

those liquid mushrooms look so good!

I'll never want to cut up my 55g aquarium though.
