Hello all. Here's a couple from the other evening with my daughter. I was setting up to snap a couple of Halloween costume pics right after sunset. This was my first time using off camera flash. She decided she wanted to pose for a few before changing to her costume. I was trying to kill all the ambient except the sunset, which had beautiful colors. The color about 5 minutes after these in her costume were even better. Would be glad to post some Halloween shots if requested.

Hm. She's looking a bit underexposed, especially in the first one. There's also alot of space around her. Considering the background has no specific elements you need to keep other than the colors of the sunset, perhaps frame closer and up the flash?

Thanks Stormy. After your comment I couldn't believe I didn't notice. I brightened the first and changed the second after noticing the terrible shadow on her right side.
I was using a westcott 28 inch softbox, sb900 flash, and pw flexes with an ac3 roughly 6 feet from her and elevated to about 4.5-5feet. 1/250 f5.6 on the first and 1/160 f5.6 on the second, ISO 200. Both were underexposed considerably. But I am learning!

YW :) ... these are much better in terms of the exposure on her. I don't know if it's just me but now it seems the ambient is brighter and the yellow tones are a bit harsh. Did you up the exposure on the whole image or just the girl? At this point you can try masking the original sunset back into the new image in Photoshop.

Gettin there!

Forgot to mention flash power was 1/2. Yes I adjusted the entire image as a quick edit via midpoint slider in levels and an exposure adjustment. I'm also learning on Photoshop so editing takes me a little longer than some. ;)
