No articulating screens and no touch screens, no siri.... total failure on Canon's part!

;-)a

That's nothing. The real fail here is the lack of a direct print button. There's just no way this camera can be "top of the line" without that.

Yeah, I live at ISO 100-400 max. Lots of cool extra's but I just don't see them impacting my final photo at all.

Canon states nothing about improved DR (not that I read anywhere at least)... ?

Canon hasn't outlined it yet, but Chuck Westfall mentions the theory regarding dynamic range and the 1D X:

"There's a couple of things that we consider when we think about IQ: number one on this sensor is noise. It's clear the noise level is better than in the 1D Mk IV or the 1DS III. The pixel size is larger than in the 1DS III or 5D Mark II (6.95 microns, versus 6.4) and the difference is even more striking compared to the 5.7 micron pixels in the 1D Mark IV. That helps us in terms of light capturing ability and increases the signal to noise ratio. In turn, that does nothing but help the dynamic range of the camera."

My husband and I give ourselves an allowance (attempting to build a nest egg and finish a house) and he calculated that we could both afford to buy one if we saved our allowences for 3.5 years, lol!!

Needless to say, we were both drooling a little bit when we read the specs :)

Possibly...

Rob Galbraith will be complaining about something with it, like he always does, I know that already

Wow, some people are still bitter about Rob calling out the 1DIII like it deserved?

As for the X, why am I not convinced that this is the end of the line for the 1Ds line? Do we really believe that Canon have abandoned the high res, pro spec camera market? I think there's still room for a $9000 (ouch) 1Ds Mark IV.

But that's a pipe dream for me in this economic climate. I prefer to look at the space vacated by the dead-as-a-deceased-parrot 1D line. Since $6800 is the new $4000, what will happen in the gap between the $2500 5D Mark II and the $6800 1DX? Will the 1D Mark IV continue to be manufactured and sold? What about a semi-pro-spec 3D as a high res, low fps shooter with a trickle-down 45-point AF from the old 1D Mark IV taking up that spot? Man would that be sweet.

Come on, Canon. Surprise us here. Shake off your lazy 5D line habits of using the same old crappy 9-point AF and really cause an earthquake in the market with a well-spec-ed, reasonably priced FF. As far as I'm concerned the only remaining major flaw of the 5D line is AF. Shoehorn the old 45-point AF in there and it will be The Last Camera I Ever Need.

I applaud you and your husband for having the discipline to plan wisely. Kudos.
