I think Canon totally nailed the placement...

The speed of the 1D with the refinements of the 1Ds and some other goodies neither line has ever offered.

I agree completely, Jay.

I think I've FINALLY found ONE camera that will fit all of my photography needs.

I shoot mainly nature, landscapes, scenics, wildlife, macro subjects, with a few sports as well, so this seems ideal.

Don't really care about the high ISO, or Video, but of course since I'd have it, I might DABBLE in video on occasion.

But for the photography aspects, I don't know what more I could ask for.

Full Frame for landscapes, scenics, macro work.

High FPS for wildlife, BIF, sports. (Plus to sound cool for nearby cute photographers of the female persuasion.)

Supposed better DR than the 1Ds Mk III for outstanding IQ.

It's a 1D series body...built in grip, weather sealing, AF system etc.

DUAL CF Card slots!!

Not to mention that I tend to keep my camera bodies for AT LEAST 10 years, so @ roughly $840.00 per year (based at a Canadian $ price of $8400 including tax), that really isn't too bad for a camera of this caliber.

Me LIKEY!!

Just sayin..

-2 EV compare to -1 EV on 1D IV so this camera is some serious low light one.

Nikon/Fuji.

Canon hasn't outlined it yet, but Chuck Westfall mentions the theory regarding dynamic range and the 1D X:

"There's a couple of things that we consider when we think about IQ: number one on this sensor is noise. It's clear the noise level is better than in the 1D Mk IV or the 1DS III. The pixel size is larger than in the 1DS III or 5D Mark II (6.95 microns, versus 6.4) and the difference is even more striking compared to the 5.7 micron pixels in the 1D Mark IV. That helps us in terms of light capturing ability and increases the signal to noise ratio. In turn, that does nothing but help the dynamic range of the camera."

So that would mean the Nikon D700 (pixel to sensor size ratio) would have VASTLY superior DR ?

Na... I don't buy it.

Did Chuck mention "VASTLY"? I didn't see that in the posted paragraph. I think what Chuck said kind of implies that improved DR took a backseat to all the other features he was talking about.

Still no mention of the buffer size.

I just calculated that with a 400,000 cycle shutter, if you shot @ 14 FPS continuously, it would ONLY take approx 7.9 hours to use up ALL 400,000 clicks. :p

400,000 / 14 FPS = 28,752 seconds

28,752 / 60 = 476.2 Minutes

476.2 / 60 = 7.9 Hours.

Well, buffer allows you ~50 full-sized jpg burst. Do the math. (I can't so don't ask me.)

Somebody mentioned seeing the number 50 in some video clip (might have been that short 14fps demo) but that probably would be the buffer size for jpeg only...

GAH! Trumped... :p
