OFFICIAL: Canon 1D X announced

Interesting how the various attitudes to the delay seem to vary by nationality, with our US cousins being the quickest to want to blame someone. Bearing this in mind, we should not forget the Japanese desperate fear of "losing face". Put simply it is vital that no one at Canon gets blamed for this delay, so therefore no one is going to admit its a problem because that might put that person in the "blame" spotlight.

They need to hire a few Apple people. New Macbooks announced today and ready to ship.

^this, my patience has worn a little thin as well given I sold my 1D4 more or less as soon as the 1Dx was announced to reap back what I paid for it. But boy have I been missing it.

Some are so naive in this world.
They must also expect it to be bug free when it does arrive.

So what you mean to say is Canon needs to ship production over to China's FoxConn facilities as we ride the backs of cheap laborers working under less-than-stellar conditions in assembly lines that could blow up at any time? (But they'll get your product on time. Because you are all that matters.)

Are you 110% sure they weren't actually "ready" 10 months ago?

Every company has lead time built into their product cycles. Why Canon chose to "jump the gun" on the 1DX is anybody's guess at this point. New Features? Bugs? Timing Vs Nikon?

Anyone who says doesn't know and anyone who knows won't say...

Positive. If it had been assembled in China, it would have been on the shelves by November 2011.

The only mention I've ever seen of any Canon gear being built outside Japan are the occasional references to some 50 f/1.8s being made in Taiwan.

AFAIK, everything else is made strictly in Japan.

I'm waiting for mine. The only possible hitch is if Canon announces something better (for me) in the interim.

Meanwhile, I'd like to echo some of what has been posted here: I think that Canon should do what is needed to get the camera right before launch. I accept that there may be delays because of that. I don't, however, like those to be a complete mystery. Canon should say something about why they are totally off-target with this camera.

I do think it'll be a game-changer when released, however, and for that I'm willing to wait. Just not patiently...

Ready to me means having the production lines up and ready and pumping them out.

It is entirely possible that they haven't actually had any problems with the camera but just moved production priority to the 5D3.

I kinda doubt this. Production of the 1D Mk IV has ceased so the manufacturing capacity should be there. I think that they found some technical issue(s) in pre-production models that they are having to work out.
