I thought some of the lower end Canon gear was made outside of Japan.

I intend to buy one, if I can get it for like around £4k + VAT, and I think that will be poss somewhere around the world :), if I cant get one at that price on release will wait a few weeks/month till it drops a bit.

The only mention I've ever seen of any Canon gear being built outside Japan are the occasional references to some 50 f/1.8s being made in Taiwan.

AFAIK, everything else is made strictly in Japan.

........Or all the news this year about production delays for Canon products due to the floods in Thailand.....

Haven't seen any of those. Only supply issues with Hard Drives.

Japan had their own natural disaster. Maybe some of you heard about it?

I kinda doubt this. Production of the 1D Mk IV has ceased so the manufacturing capacity should be there. I think that they found some technical issue(s) in pre-production models that they are having to work out.

Yep, something went wrong

I pre ordered way back. I am first on the list.
Of course I am upset but I would rather get a camera that functions perfectly. I am glad I did not sell my 1DIV when it was announced. I have also been waiting for my goddam 24-70 II also and now I will have to rent one next week for a shoot.

Canon - please for the love of god make an announcement on the problems you are having.

Manual is out.

Hopefully now, this thread will stop being an outlet to complain about delays for the time being. It's getting tiresome.

So you think giving us a manual is a reason not to complain that the body has a September release for some? :). Dream on Mister :p

Both Canon and Nikon were affected by the floods in Thailand. It was mentioned loads when it happened wether you heard about it or not.
Of course I know about the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. It is a place I have been playing professionally as a guitarist since 1992 and I have lots of very good friends there.

I was hopeful. Maybe we can move all of the whiney posts to a new thread called "Come cry about 1D X delays". Then, the rest of us can stay here to remain excited about this body.

Well we could always talk about the fantastic pictures it takes. Oh, no we can't, because no-one has a production body yet....

Trust me, I'm antsy for it too. I think I pre-ordered back in March. Sold my 1DIV and my 5D quickly to recoup as much of my cost as possible. Ended up buying a 1DIV again. Absolutely nothing wrong with the 1DIV, but I am certainly excited about the 1DX. Can't wait for a full-frame increase in quality from the 5D, and I can't live without the pro body.

I'm just not one to complain for the sake of complaining. I hate complainers/whiners. It's cacophonous and so unproductive. But I guess it makes some people feel good.

If there was nothing to whine or complain about no one would, if you do not complain, then they think everything is sweet, personally a lot more should complain, it just might improve quality control :), and the customer might even get treated with some more respect
