I check this thread every day and its unhealthy. I really need to separate my 'need' for this camera from my 'want' because I know its shipping and others on the Boards have one now. The truth is - I don't need this camera. I want it and the challange and excitement of something new that comes with it. I have a perfectly good Mark IV and 1DsIII (which i will sell when the 1Dx arrives) with a bunch of L's.

This camera will not make me a better photographer - I am not at that level that it will make a difference and i do not make a living via photography. I am a serious hobby photographer and have been for 25 years. I am not going to the Olympics and I would not know a black-throated mango anthrocothorax nigricollis if it flew over my head and crapped on my car. Rather, I should be getting off my arse and shooting all weekend and just enjoying what I have instead of being impatient about what I dont have.

I am glad I got that off my chest. I am going to go shoot some pictures now.

I am a CPS member. but i didn't get mine :(

A CPS member from Vancouver, B.C. picked up a 1Dx body from a local store in the suburb of Delta yesterday. Used it to photograph a bike race. He let the sales clerk, who is a friend of his, handle it for a short while. The sales clerk said it was very impressive.

I asked when would it be available to non CPS members, and he told me around late September, early October.

But at least there are a few already trickling in to local retailers here in Canada.

I'm a CPS member, If you meet the criteria, apply to become a cps member, its paid for itself about 3 times already this year. I just picked up a 17mm TS-E and saved 400 bucks. Saved almost twice the cost of the membership, and I still have all the other bennies too.

You get a discount with your membership? How does that work?

well, I'm not sure how it works for online shoppers, but I've registered my membership with the local Mcbain Camera. Canon gives people with CPS "pro pricing" on all their professional gear. Some things you would think are pro, aren't, like the 5D3, so you get no discount, but every L lens I've inquired about is significantly cheaper.

Like I said, its a "Canon" discount, so you should be able to get the discount at any retailer if you can prove your a memeber.

No, there are different cps division for each country/region. They all have different programs.

So, are there any similar discounts available to CPS members in the USA?

I'll just settle for the camera please......!

At this rate it's not inconceivable I'll clock up a year on pre-order (I ordered 19th October 2011).
