AFAIK, the 8-15mm was announced at $1499 and it's retailing at $1499

It was announced at $1399 and during the very long wait between announcement and delivery the price went up. I have to give Adorama kudos - for those of us who ordered early, they held the $1399 price.

The MkIV could go on to become a very sought after body if it does become the last 1.3.

In that scenario, I don't see myself selling my MkIV.

At least not until they become collector's items and sell for enough to let me buy the new 200-400. :D

Actually, I think I could be very happy with two MkIVs...

Finding a new second one may become a challenge soon. With 5-6 months until the "X" comes out, I wonder how much production capacity, if any, Canon will use for the MkIVs.

I see Adorama has MkIV's in stock, but at the current price of $5,499, the price delta between it and the 1D-X has come down to $1300.

That's our usual policy; to make every effort to keep to a pre-order price - even though we don't charge 'til an order actually ships, and of course, we could be paying the manufacturer more for the next consignment.

Not only that, if the price we pay drops, then so does the amount we charge for your pre-order.

Heads you win....tails - you win again!

The delta really should be $1,800 since Adorama seems to like to be $500 above MSRP on the 1D's. Boo.

Lots of good info in this thread. As expected. I may update my mark3 and grab a mark4 while the gettin is still good. And, I'm more inclined than ever to wait and see what a 5D3 brings to the table. Only area where a 5D2 is weak is the outer focal points. If they fix that, might be all most of us want or need.

Appreciate everyone's thought and insight:cool:

Excerpts that caught my eye:

"DB: Moving forward, has Canon dropped the APS-H sensor from its future plans?
CW: The 1.3 crop sensor is not being killed off. Canon is keeping all options open for future products.

DB: One of the advantages of moving to a full-frame sensor with a relatively low megapixel count is an improvement in high ISO noise levels. Canon is claiming a two stop gain in high ISO performance when compared to the 1D Mark IV. Will we see the full two stops when shooting RAW files, or is this limited to JPEG files only?
CW: To get the full two stops of improved performance you’ll need to shoot in the JPEG format. That’s not to say that high ISO performance isn’t significantly better when shooting in RAW, because it absolutely is."

So for those hopeful that 1.3 is not dead... it my possibly be revived.

And 2-stop = jpg NR. Will it even be 1-stop better? Hehehe...

I read that part about the 1.3 sensor. That's good news after all! We won't see any wildlife/sport photographers jumping off the bridge! Phew!;)

Thanks for the link. Now this part I really liked:

DB: Moving forward, has Canon dropped the APS-H sensor from its future plans?
CW: The 1.3 crop sensor is not being killed off. Canon is keeping all options open for future products.

but this is interesting:
DB: One of the advantages of moving to a full-frame sensor with a relatively low megapixel count is an improvement in high ISO noise levels. So I guess that means for RAW shooters it is not going to be a 2 stop advantage!

Again I am so glad I have my 1D4!

What makes you think the RAW file isn't going to be clean? Do you have access to the 1D X?

The lack of 2stop advantage in RAW is lame. Canon has been working on this thing for how long? - and all they can do is maybe 1 stop of advantage?

Screw it... I'm moving to Nikon!

[okay, so I'm not really... but still that's lame.]

This sounds good though:
"AF can be achieved at EV -2, the equivalent of locking focus under the light of a full moon."

Let's see the 5D try that... it might lock on if you're talking about the moon in the sky during the day... ;-)a

No I am sure it is but probably not a full 2 stop advantage in RAW. I am just going by what is quoted in the article above.
