LOL! Denial! Todd, you're finding every excuse to think this camera sucks. ;)

Yes, I am totally trying to find a way to save myself $6800. :D

Not having much luck so far though... about as much luck as I am in finding $6800 to begin with. :(

DB: One of the advantages of moving to a full-frame sensor with a relatively low megapixel count is an improvement in high ISO noise levels. Canon is claiming a two stop gain in high ISO performance when compared to the 1D Mark IV. Will we see the full two stops when shooting RAW files, or is this limited to JPEG files only?
CW: To get the full two stops of improved performance you’ll need to shoot in the JPEG format. That’s not to say that high ISO performance isn’t significantly better when shooting in RAW, because it absolutely is."

So for those hopeful that 1.3 is not dead... it my possibly be revived.

And 2-stop = jpg NR. Will it even be 1-stop better? Hehehe...

LOL!

Imagine my surprise.

If you were to take the 1D4 sensor tech and build a full frame sensor with it, that alone would buy you 3/4 of a stop improvement in noise handling in the frame, even without any technological improvements whatsoever. So I figure they got a real improvement of somewhere around 1/2 a stop, if that, which would put the RAW improvement at 1.25 stops or less over the 1D4 when comparing equally sized prints.

(apologize if it was pasted a couple of pages ago....)

Interesting read. Thanks for posting!
I like this:

---------------

DB: Does that mean that it’s not possible to AF at f/8, or that it’s not reliable but could be implemented? Could f/8 AF be enabled as a custom function?
CW: I have no further comment at this time, because Canon Inc. has not published answers to those questions.

Well, you never know do you...

What a joke that Engadget got hands-on time with the 1DX. They don't know a camera from a hole in the ground.

That's probably why they got hands-on time with it!

I'm going to wait for something that will replace the 1Ds Mark III. If this is it, then I may think on jumping ship when Nikon makes the D4.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Hi Patrick,
Just curious, why would you "jump ship" ?
Do you see something that the 1Dx won't do that the 1Ds4 will?

Hey, at least Gizmodo has those photo contests. I have more faith in Gizmodo's and their readers' abilities to understand a camera than Engadget's, although a hands-on of a 1-series camera belongs on neither. A quick glance at the Engadget comments turns up all kinds of derp.

True, neither are really examples of great journalism, especially related to photography.

The only thing Endgadget and similar sites are capable of doing is comparing a pro DSLR like 1DX to the latest iPhone's camera and then say that the iPhone's camera is the best by far and people will then be stupid enough to believe that. :(

You're in good company here, Todd.

So far my rational side, and my wallet, are winning.:lol::lol:

The thing I found interesting in the engadget piece is that Canon is a couple months from letting anyone save files. This tells me the firmware is far from what they expect to be final.

This coincides with one other bit of info I got this morning - the 1DX prototype that will be on display at the Edmonton Photographic Trade Show has a very early firmware version. Even though attendees will be able to see the camera in person, it sounds like we won't be taking any pictures with it yet.

I guess I'll have to wait until I get mine in my hands to really check it out in depth!

Regards,
Jim

APS-H may not be dead, and Canon has been listening to nature and wildlife shooters.

2 stops is in JPEG

No comment--No comment

Sounds like the initial response was not everything Canon wanted.

After dealing with Chuck and associates after a previous 1d release gone bad keep the definition of marketing in mind.
