he did release a beta version, but this was the first stable version he released for purchase. I had it installed fine on my old laptop, but I have since upgraded and went to install it on the new one, and I'm getting the error mentioned above.

I've had no luck with the Pro version - although I understand its a BETA version, i can't even get the damn thing to open on my mac. Tried everything.

Not a great start me thinks...

I found out part of my problem is my laptop is Windows 8, and focal has only recently been made compatible with Windows 8 with the latest release.. I guess I'll need to get a virtual XP machine up and running.

Mac users need to download the Mono framework before installing Focal.

nah, got that part sorted. but serves me right not reading the manual! RTFM!! lol, forgot the mac 'gatekeeper' was still working and i could just bypass and open a new app with the usual Alt + open, and then selecting open... works a treat - now only to get enough light setup to test my lenses.

I tried Focal again after 5 months wait for updates and answer (still no). Same thing as ever: random crashing. The "program" just quits.

Seems that focal quits whenever it is trying to focus my 5d.

So, it crashes with your computer yet runs fine on thousands of other computers?

Conclusion: there must be something wrong with the program.

I can confirm that this happens all the time, because it is so much easier to open a ticket for software engineering than cleaning the keyboard and mouse and....

Not my conclusion. There is something wrong with something and I need help to sort it out. I would apreciate a constructive help or an answer for my ticket but no.

Still all the other programs and stuff work perfectly with my mac. Also Canon EOS utility and focusing in that.

Also if I buy a program and it does not work it is quite natural to contact the support (which is what they ask me to do) and to expect a reply.

I recently provided feedback on the first 1.9 beta release for Windows (several problems reported, with screen prints as supporting evidence) and today received a reply addressing each problem in turn. Some problems should now be sorted in the second beta, while clarification was required regarding others. Anyway, the point is that it is worth providing feedback, because clearly it is valued and acted upon.

BTW, they don't currently have a 1D3 available and some of my problems were specific to that camera model, so now they are looking to source another 1D3 in order to fully resolve any further reported issues.
