Which would you choose as an action/sport camera from the current offerings from Canon ?

I'm firmly in the 1D4 camp here ... the 1.3 crop is a useful attribute to me as I shoot motorsport and airshows.

Why would I be interested in a FF sensor with 14 fps ...

Just doesn't quite fit IMHO ...

Since you qualify your thinking by calling yourself "semi-pro," go get a 7D and get all the "reach" you want...

since you own a 1dmkIV shoot with that and use your 7D as a backup.

the 7D would be the suggested camera for semi-pro sports shooting but since you have it then you have everything you need an extra.

unless you are shooting professional you have no need for the 1d X.

shoot with the mkIV + 300L and put your 70-200 on the 7D. thats what i would do. you can switch that if you feel you need more "reach" from the 1.6 crop

What's a semi-pro? Isn't it kind of you either get paid for your work or you don't right?

you get paid on occasion but not a lot and the work would not be steady. so semi-pro means its not your primary income. you are more freelance

Just to clarify, the "14fps" is only available in JPEG, using One Shot AF and MLU so it's not fair to call out that feature as a reason to not use the camera. There are though, many static situations where that kind of frame rate would work very well.

yea but 12fps in servo over that 10fps for some sports photographers is a big deal but honestly the normal shooter doesnt need it. i understand the excitement but i dont understand why now that this is announced everyone thinks that they seriously cant take a good picture without it.

By every percentage you reduce the "in between" interval, you increase the probability that you'll get THE shot.

Most photographers? No... The guy/gal who has to get it at an Olympics or similar major event, hell yeah!

You're shooting AIR SHOWS and you're asking what use 14fps would be to you?

I shoot airshows and other aviation subjects and I rarely use the full 10fps on the bodies I have...

It's a function that has a time/place for use, not an every shot requirement.

Semi-pro / freelance ... i.e. it's not my main income, but I do get paid for some photographic work ... a wonder if you would have understand it better if I'd used prosumer

NOTE: I qualified the 14fps combined with FF ...

From the specs (that's all we have to go on at this point in time), this new camera appears to be a general camera that's going to be good for everything ... but there appears to be better cameras for each genre.

I.E. for motorsport I think a 1D4 is more suitable and for studio work I would choose a 5D2

I guess I have been living under a rock. What body has 14 fps?
10 is fast enough for me. Sometimes, I even turn it down to 8.

The new 1DX will...

See the caveat I laid out above though.
