This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I have posted a picture, re-sized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Otherwise, this photo was taken from the camera as is and unedited by myself.

The game will last 7 Days and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

What I'm looking for:
Sometimes when a picture sits in my 'nothing special about it' pile... I take it back out & make it whimsical with some fun photoshop editing.
For example, this shot, didn't turn out as interesting as I thought it would, as a series after some fun PP, ended up quite fun.

Thus I'm looking for some whimsical and fun PP.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #388."

Ends on Saturday, October 22, at 7:00 am CST

Masked subject, motion blur to background (cloned out edges of subject so they wouldn't show in the blur), LR adjustments, sharpen face and jewelry, painted adjustments to sharpen and enhance eyes, mouth, and cheeks.

The reason why I didn't upload and post this from Flickr is because Flickr isn't letting me delete my photos right now, so I don't want to put a copy of a photo I don't own on my Flickr. Sorry in advance for the small size.

PS- duplicated layer, glowing edges filter, convert to BW, invert colors. Quick mask, gradient filter, delete area around her. Merge layers, resize, sharpen, save.

here is my version

messed with exposure, cropping, levels, curves, tones, lens flare, color correction, softening up the photo. I had little hope when starting, but was pleased and surprised to see the end result. :)

I was disappointed when I didn't see the rest of the family.

I know this one can't be judged, but since Halloween is just around the corner...

Created multiple images with different presets in LR3, then combined them in PS.

Base layer is the heavy oranges in the background. Next layer was background again: deep darks, distinct shadows, vibrant greens. adjusted opacity of 2nd layer to get the wanted look.
Copied original woman and pasted as next layer, slight reduction in opacity. Merging layers didn't work correctly (new install on a new computer may be the reason) so selected and copied all layers to new image. Added a slight sandstone texture and vignetting .

cawcaw - well done i really like the motion of the image, tho I feel there could be more to it, given what I was looking for.

NYDtv - not sure if some read the 'what i'm looking for' on the edit part ;) but definitely not a whimsical or over the top edit tho I like the crop.

asay82 - same as above, tho it has great color, well done.

surgeonhawkeye - I like the colors, very fall, as stated in the description in the top I was hoping for some 'creative editing' *I was expecting great things from this one*

T3HeavyShop - very interesting edit, like everything is dissapearing, kinda neat.

JWolfe - Very Colorful edit, I'm a fan of post process sun flair

08photog - I think its funny, well done

In the end I give it to JWolfe for the win - great color, love the over the top sun flair... would have loved it more if something 'more' was added in, I should have put what I was looking for right above the picture ;)

Here was my take on the picture. It's what I do when I get bored. Family never knows what will happen to pictures of them. ;)

Good choice. As soon as I saw the lens flare, I was tempted to go back and change mine.

I had some ideas but I was trying to be polite because I've gotten myself in trouble in the past. Ok, you're in for it - next time!

(With my luck, your friend would have been upset by the Zombie edit because she really was attacked by Zombies and it left her emotionally scarred. Lore, do you ever do the Fark photoshop contests? We need something like that here on POTN.)

Edit: I've never used lens flare in Photoshop, so I found instructions and re-did the image. I couldn't find a good out of control motorcycle image so I settled for a mountain lion. Thanks for the ideas.

I have not heard of the Fark photoshop contests. It would definitely be my cup of tea :D
