Since I don't do this full time and I am doing a small of amount of weddings and events I can't justify selling this body and then dumping another 2-3k. I mean the specs look awesome, but why would you? Just curious.

Because you have:

A) Identified something that it does that you need and the 1D IV doesn't

or

B) Have some disposable income and just enjoy shiny, new things ;)

In your case, it sounds like neither one, so I wouldn't.

Because I want the Full Frame aspect for my landscape, scenic, and macro photography, and the high FPS rate, and 1D series AF for my wildlife, BIF, and sports photography...ALL in ONE 1D series BODY!!

THAT'S WHY!!

I have a 1D4 and wouldn't even consider selling mine for this one.

AF that actually works, maybe? Native ISO 12800+ for awesome indoor shooting of moving subjects, ie. kids. If the AF works, this will also rock for indoor sports nuts.

Me too.
I was a few weeks away from pulling the trigger on a 5D II for a dual-camera solution, but this has now stopped me dead.

The only concern I have is putting all my eggs in one basket, because if the camera fails, I won't have a backup.

If your 1d4 is meeting your needs, then there's no reason to upgrade to the 1dx. If your rebel T1i is meeting your needs, there is no reason to upgrade to a 7D. So on and so forth....

But once those duck picture by 1dx owners threads start showing up here, then you will find a reason to upgrade.

My feelings too... I have the 1D4/5D2 pair. Although I protested disinterest a couple of days back, the double CF, double joystick, compatible battery requirement plus 7D interface has me considering switching to a single, do-everything camera...

Even though I've never had and EOS camera break on me, this leaves me uncomfortable.

I suppose I'll sit on my hands to see whether there's special CPS pricing offered... not that I expect to see much of a discount.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

Well you DO KNOW that the solution to that concern is simple, right?

...Get TWO 1DX bodies! :p:lol:

As a 1D4 owner I think there is lot there to like and some things to not like but the biggest drawback to me is that Canon is forcing 1D owners down an upgrade path that costs $6800. We use to have a choice on whether we wanted to pay extra for a pro FF body. Now we don't. They merged but kept the 1Ds price. I love Canon equipment but that is just greedy.

While I don't share my enthusiasm to this extend, yet... I couldn't agree more!

1dsIII had a initial MSRP of over US$8000. If you don't mind 3MP reduction. The 1dx renders the 1dsIII line obsolete.
