Good idea / bad idea? Usually rock my L glass but have thought about adding a super-zoom to the collection, maybe even a 28-300. Used to have the Tammy 18-270 and I liked it, but I have considered the 28-300 because I'm on a full-frame sensor now.

I typically use a 5D, 540ez and a combination of a Canon 20-35 f3.5-4.5, 50/1.8 Mk.I and for couple portraits the 70-200 f4L IS. The setup works but changing lenses in the middle of a shot and carrying two or three of them around drunk people is getting old.

I'd say no, you will have a lot of people bumping and grinding close to you. Wide angle in a club seems better. Carrying a superzoom L would not be a good choice.

it'd be alot of work to carry that lens on your neck in the club.

i wouldn't do it.

Are you talking about getting the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM or the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM? If it is the former, that lens is very big, heavy and expensive although quite good. The EF 28-200 is ok but not great. It is less sharp than the 28-135mm.

You might want to consider the EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM to still be able to go fairly wide with midrange lens quality. Do you really need 200-300mm in that environment?

Now that I mention it I don't need to go to 300mm, I was just thinking 200.

The 28-200 I know isn't too big and the wide angle in the club is awesome, my 20-35 sees more use than the 50 and 70-200 together.

I was originally using a 24-105/4L and the aperture motor went on it and I have to get it repaired so I've been using this combo in the meantime.
