Sorry posted this on the teleconverter board but it doesn't seem to get too many visitors so still not sure so help please ... I have a Sigma DG 120-400 APO HSM and am looking at getting a 1.4 converter, there seem to be two flavours of a Sigma; one DG the other not ... I understand I will not get AF with the DG (not sure about the non dg) but am not worried about manual focusing but should I choose one over the other ? and also have read some good things about KENKO Converter 1.4x Teleplus PRO 300 DGX

Thanks to anyone able to help - Roger

I have the Kenko 1.4 Pro300 DGX and like it quite a lot. I use it on my Canon 400 5.6 lens. You can read some thoughts about it in this thread:

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1086884

You will retain AF with this converter, although you say you don't mind manual.

Thanks Rich - good of you, seems like I'll go for the Kenko (a little cheaper than the Sigma as well) - regards Roger

just a note, you probably won't retain reliable auto-focus...will you be able to get a shot of something static in great light...yeah probably...will you be able to track a BIF...no, probably not

Thanks for that ... I don't really expect too much but for the cost I think it's worth checking out the possibilities, I'd prefer to go for longer or better quality glass but no budget I'm afraid ... £100 for this is an extravagance according to my wife ... how little they know ! - Roger

Yes, that's the converter, Roger, although I have no idea if that is a reliable place to buy it.

As far as warnings about unreliable AF without a lot of light, yes, that is true. I didn't mention it because it is fully covered in the thread I linked to above.

I agree, Roger, it's a good thing to have. :)

Thanks again Rich ... I am taking a chance, having not used the supplier but am using paypal so there's some protection and the price was good and NO delivery charge ,,, I'll post back if it arrives OK, just in case someone else comes across this thread.
